YouTube Syndication with TargetVideo

This document explains how to set up and use TargetVideo's YouTube syndication feature to automatically export your videos to your YouTube channel. Follow the steps below to prepare your account, syndicate videos, and manage your YouTube settings.

What is YouTube Syndication with TargetVideo?

With TargetVideo's YouTube syndication, you can easily export any video added into TargetVideo directly to your YouTube account and channel.

Syndication with YouTube is "one-way": your settings and content in TargetVideo are pushed to YouTube, but settings and content on YouTube are not pulled back to TargetVideo.

To syndicate content to your YouTube channel in TargetVideo, you’ll use your Google YouTube login account. We use the OAuth 2.0 protocol to authorize users to publish (syndicate) videos to YouTube.

How to Prepare Your Account to Syndicate Videos to YouTube

Before you can start syndicating videos to YouTube, you'll need to prepare your TargetVideo account. Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to TargetVideo and select your site.
  2. Click on the cogwheel to go to site Settings.
  3. Select the checkbox Enable site for YouTube syndication of videos.
  4. In the pop-up window, log in to the Google YouTube account to which you want to syndicate content. If you have multiple Google accounts, they will be listed, but you can only select one for exporting videos from TargetVideo to YouTube.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to authorize the syndication and click OK.
  6. Click Save back on the TargetVideo Manage Website screen.

Once completed, you’ll have a new option, Publish on YouTube, available on the Add Video screen when adding videos into TargetVideo.

How to Syndicate Videos from TargetVideo to Your YouTube Channel?

  1. On the Add Video screen, once you begin adding a video and entering its metadata, you'll see the checkbox Publish on YouTube Channel.
  2. Enable the option.
  3. A HTTP cookie will be set on your machine, which will remember this option. Any subsequent video added to your account will, by default, have this option enabled.
  4. Please allow some time for your video to appear on your YouTube dashboard.

What Category Will My Syndicated Video Go To?

All videos syndicated to YouTube through TargetVideo will go to your default YouTube channel, People & Blogs. You will need to manually change the category in YouTube's dashboard if you'd like it in a different channel category.

How Fast Will My YouTube Videos Appear on My YouTube Dashboard?

Typically, videos uploaded to YouTube appear within five minutes. However, video uploads may take longer depending on:

  • The size of the video asset.
  • The number of videos you're syncing to YouTube at the same time.

Keep this in mind when monitoring your video uploads.

YouTube Privacy Settings

By default, when you syndicate a video from TargetVideo to YouTube, the video will be set to Public.

If you'd like the video to be private, you will need to manually adjust the privacy setting in YouTube's dashboard after the video appears there.

Are There Any Limits Regarding YouTube Syndication?

  • Video Size Limit: You can only syndicate videos that are up to 1GB size.
  • Video Duration: There are no limits on the duration of the video.
  • Metadata Updates: If you make any changes to the metadata of a syndicated video in TargetVideo, those changes will not automatically transfer to YouTube. You will need to manually update the metadata in YouTube’s dashboard as well.
