Push a TargetVideo player through a 1x1 GAM pixel
Placement tags - Google Support
One of the key benefits of using this approach is the ability to deploy a TargetVideo player across multiple sites and web properties via a single GAM ad campaign. This also provides additional advantages, such as the advanced targeting options in GAM, frequency settings, and more.
Given the complexity of serving such a unit through GAM, we've made significant adjustments to our players to support this feature. The main challenge is that GAM serves its units through its own iframes, which creates a barrier for the player to break out of the iframe.
Here’s a quick guide on setting up a TargetVideo ad unit for GAM using a 1x1 pixel. Note that the same steps can be applied to any player embed code.
-
Log into the TargetVideo CMS and select your site.
-
Go to the Ad Units section and create the ad unit you plan to use.
-
Grab the embed code for your unit and ensure the Serve outstream through DFP checkbox is enabled.
-
In GAM, create a new line item with a 1x1 size.
-
When adding a creative in GAM, select "third party" or "custom."
-
Populate the custom creative with the ad unit code from TargetVideo CMS.
Important: On this screen, ensure the "Serve into a SafeFrame" option is unchecked. This is crucial because if it’s enabled, our player won’t be able to break out of GAM’s iframe, which is created when the ad renders on the web page.
-
Save the creative and line item, then grab the 1x1 GPT tag from GAM and paste it into your site.
And that's it!
Follow these steps to deploy a TargetVideo player using a 1x1 pixel in GAM. If you encounter any issues or have questions, don't hesitate to reach out to our support team, and we’ll assist you as soon as possible.
Please note that using any GAM size other than 1x1 may lead to suboptimal performance.
